Clinics & Services
Cervical Smears
These are done by appointment with the nurse or doctor. We recommend regular smears for women between the ages of 25-65. Reminders are sent to patients whose smears are due.
Diabetes
Marie Rouse, Advanced Nurse Practitioner - Diabetes Specialist Nurse, has diabetes clinics on Monday to Wednesday. These take place at both our Histon surgery and Cottenham branch surgery. Marie is also able to help with minor illness problems.
Family Planning
We advise on all types of contraception. You can see any of the doctors or the nurse for advice during normal surgery hours. Coil and cap fittings need a special appointment.
Maternity Care
We are happy to provide antenatal and postnatal care with the help of the community midwife. She is also able to offer pre-conception advice.
Practice Nurse Clinics
The practice nurses are based in the surgery and can be seen by appointment. They provide a wide range of treatments including:
- Contraceptive advice (including emergency contraception)
- They are also able to give advice for some minor illnesses (ask at reception for details).
Quitting Smoking
If you’re a smoker, giving up is the single most valuable step you can take to improve your health. It can improve your lifestyle and finances too! Please book an appointment with one of our practice nurses to discuss quitting smoking. The NHS can help you to quit using a variety of support tools.
When you go smoke free, you are up to four times more likely to succeed if you use NHS support and stop smoking medicines such as patches or gum to manage your cravings.

Most of the services we offer are free under the NHS. Some services are not covered and for these your GP, like any other professional, will charge a fee. The fee will reflect the doctor or nurses time to carry out the service, the doctors professional opinion, as well as the cost of other staff support and consumables.
We do not offer capacity assessments for legal forms. You will need to speak to a solicitor or private psychiatrist for this service.
Please note that due to a variety of medicolegal reasons, we are unable to state fitness for a certain activities, even following examination/medical. Whilst we will provide a medical statement of fact, you may need a specialist private opinion to decide about fitness to undertake certain activities. We may comment that we see no reason why you are unfit to partake in an activity; however, statement of fitness may need to be done by a specialist who is properly trained and indemnified in the given area (ie. Occupational health specialist, sports medicine etc).
We do not do fitness to exercise letters such as the Paris Marathon forms. There are online private expert sites that deal with such requests.
We aim to complete all paperwork within 2 weeks of receiving documents and payment. Work will not commence until payment has been received. Prior to paperwork being given to the surgery for completion, please fill out your relevant parts entirely.
Forms that are required within 2 weeks of the date of receipt may incur an additional processing charge of £20. This is because the administration, secretaries and doctors need to make special arrangements to process the forms quickly.
Postage costs are not included in the above costs. If required, please give a self-addressed stamped envelope at time of delivery or arrange for collection from the surgery.
For holiday cancellation forms, please complete all sections relevant to date of travel, when the holiday was booked and when insurance was taken out.
Charges for private appointments may be taken at time of booking. This amount is non-refundable if the appointment is not attended. This is due to an increasing rise in patients who do not attend booked appointments.
